Egbert Dearborn is a pure-blood, wizard, the oldest son of Mr and Mrs Dearborn, and the older brother of Sam and Caradoc Dearborn. He was to be appointed head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement at the Ministry of Magic proceeding the resignation of Alexander Potter. However, due to his plans about disallowing rights for Muggle-borns being leaked, a protest against him was staged by the organization, Magic for Peace. As a result of the protest, Dearborn's harsh reactions to it, and some quick penning by reporter Rita Skeeter, Bartemius Crouch ended up with the job instead.

"Phoenix"[]

It is leaked that the Egbert, the interim head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement, will likely retain the position that was recently vacated by Alexander Potter. However, two days later, it is leaked that Egbert was planning on imposing a new piece of legislation, the Magical Population Protection Act. The legislation allows the number of Hogwarts letters sent to Muggle-borns to have a limit of two per year to minimize the possibility that a Muggle-born, breeding with a witch or wizard, will pass on the "muggle trait."

""What do you want?"
This did surprise her. She wasn't quite sure what he meant, and so she told him uncertainly: "James, Alice, and I came after Frank..."
Dearborn ignored this. "What do you want from me?" he asked, and it was the oddest thing—he was almost pleading with her. Perhaps it was the late hour, but he appeared suddenly exhausted. The lines around his eyes became more pronounced, and his frown looked more desperate.
"Are you taking requests?" asked Lily bewilderedly.
Dearborn again ignored her reply. He rose from his desk and began to pace. "Your kind is—is graciously admitted into magic... welcomed, given a wand... the ingratitude... the disrespect for us—for purebloods..."
His voice trembled; Lily began to understand what he truly meant by bringing her to his office..."
— Egbert rambles about Muggle-borns

Egbert walks into the cells in the Auror department to look at the four witches and wizards inside. He recognises his cousin, James Potter, and offers to have him taken home immediately. James refuses to leave without the others so Egbert asks Lily Evans to talk with him in his office. There, he asks Lily what she wants from him, and starts rambling about the audacity that Muggle-borns have to disrespect pure-bloods after they welcomed Muggle-borns and gave them wands. Lily responds that he, nor pure-bloods alike, admitted her to magic, that she didn't take anything from him nor wanted anything.

Physical Description[]

He is a lean, neatly-dressed politician with a manicure as impeccable as his pedigree. He has iron-coloured hair and eyes, and a long, thin face.

Personality and traits[]

Egbert is an ideologue, and never really cared much for power. He largely holds the same elitist pure-blood beliefs that he grew up with, and during his short stint as head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement, he tried to uphold them by attempting to pass a law 'Magical Population Protection Act. While he agrees that the Death Eaters are to be loathed, he feels that they are a reaction to the social injustice that pure-bloods felt and that they would disintegrate if the Ministry would implement a better plan for them.
